TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
TOEFL has two adaptations:-
a) TOEFL IBT (Internet-based test)
b) TOEFL PBT (Paper-based test)
Both the forms of TOEFL test have four segments Reading, Speaking, Listening and Writing.
Who Accepts TOEFL Scores
There are thousand colleges, agencies and other institutions in over 130 countries accept TOEFL scores. Immigration departments consider TOEFL score to issue residential and work visas. Medical and other licensing agencies obtain TOEFL score for professional certification.
For Australia / UK / New Zealand, TOEFL iBT test scores are accepted as English language proficiency for student, post-study, skilled migration and business visa. For U.K., TOEFL iBT test scores are acknowledged for Tier 4 student visas under certain circumstances. Candidate needs a total score of 79 or more from a test taken within 2 years prior to his application date.
TOEFL iBT Test Scoring
The score is based on performance in the test. The student must answer at least 1 question each in the Reading, writing, speaking and Listening section. The score range for each of the sections (Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking) is from 0 to 30, each section is a separately determined and each section has its own scale. TOEFL evaluate the effectiveness of the language, quality of ideas and the appropriateness of content. There is no passing or failing TOEFL score, however educational institutions and agencies set their own score requirements. TOEFL scores are valid for 2 years after the test date and there is no limit to the number of attempts.
