(Test of English for International Communication)
TOEIC is an English language test designed to measure the everyday English skills of a person working in an international environment. There are different forms of the exam – Listening & Reading Test, Speaking test and writing test. The test is designed to replicate English usage in the workplace, though there is no need for any knowledge of specialized business terms.
TOEIC Listening & Reading Test
TOEIC Listening & Reading Test consists of two equally score tests of comprehension assessment activities totaling of 990 marks. It has 200 multiple-choice questions equally divided between listening and reading comprehension section. TOEIC Listening & Reading test takes duration of two hours – 45 minutes for Listening and 75 minutes for Reading.
TOEIC Speaking & Writing Test
TOEIC speaking test includes tasks that evaluate pronunciation, intonation and stress, grammar, vocabulary, cohesion, relevance & completeness of content. On the other side, TOEIC Writing test includes tasks that evaluate grammar, relevance of sentences to the pictures, variety and quality of sentences, vocabulary, structuring, and whether the view is supported with reason and/or examples. Both assessments has score scale of 0 – 200 each grouped into eight proficiency levels for Speaking and nine proficiency levels for Writing. A candidate can attempt speaking test without taking Writing test and vice versa. TOEIC Speaking & Writing test takes duration of 80 minutes – 20 minutes for Speaking and 60 minutes for Writing.
TOEIC test certificates are optional & represent in five colors, consequent to scoring:
- orange (10–219)
- brown (220–469)
- green (470–729)
- blue (730–859)
- gold (860–990)
Who recognizes the TOEIC
Over 10,000 organizations in 120 countries throughout the world accept TOEIC test to verify the English language skills. A number of universities in Greece acknowledge TOEIC as proof of knowledge of English for entry into their graduate programs. Other overseas universities also recognize TOEIC for entry into their English-speaking undergraduate and graduate programs TOEIC is too recognized by Private Sector as well as by the Supreme Council for Civil Personnel Selection (ASEP) as proof of knowledge of English.
